Delivering 5G service to your smartphone relies on tens of thousands of pieces of network equipment, often in different locations across the country, to be synchronised to within tiny fractions of a second. As Radio Access Networks (RANs) are evolving to support higher data rates, greater coverage and better use of the spectrum, synchronisation needs to evolve in parallel.
